Preservation Series: Means, Methods, and Materials - Powelton Village

Powelton Village Historic District – History and Methodology

presented by: Katherine Dowdell, Founding Principal, Farragut Street Architects

The Powelton Village Historic District, comprised of over 900 properties, was added to the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places in November 2022, following a year-long effort to produce and submit the nomination, and many more months of agency review, public meetings, and final approval.  This talk will give a brief history of the neighborhood, and then will focus on the mechanics of producing such a monumental document, along with a discussion of ways in which current technologies are helping, and changing, the way nominations are (and should be) written.
