Perimeter Wall Study at Eastern State Penitentiary

presented by:

Liz Trumbull, Director of Preservation, Eastern State Penitentiary

Lorraine Schnabel, Principal, Schnabel Conservation LLC

Eastern State Penitentiary is an eleven-acre campus surrounded by a thirty-foot-high masonry perimeter wall constructed in 1822. Though the wall is part of annual maintenance campaigns, it has not been the subject of a major study or planning effort until now. Liz and Lorraine will discuss the comprehensive, multidisciplinary study conducted over the course of 3 years that thoroughly captured the conditions of the walls and identified a clear path forward for repairs and further analysis.
