Please join us in celebrating our chapter’s 40th anniversary as we reflect on the last 40 years and look to the NEXT 40!
Since 1984, APT-DVC has educated its members on the best technology for protecting historic structures and their settings. Our event will honor our members of the past 40 years and build a bridge to future generations of historic preservationists.
Our celebration will include food, drinks and music. Register at the link above or by clicking here.
Meet our keynote speakers!
Richard I. Ortega PE, AIA, FAPT RP, Principal, has nearly 50 years experience in historic preservation as an architectural conservator, architect, and structural engineer. He has worked as a cultural resource specialist for the National Park Service, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In private practice, he has served as prime professional as well as a consultant on numerous projects involving historic buildings for Federal, State, and County governments. He has been a member of APTI since 1974 and APT-DVC since 1982 and been on the Boards of both. Rick founded Ortega Consulting (OC), in 1987, to specialize in structural engineering, and in the engineering and technical aspects of historic preservation; in particular, in building diagnostics, building assessments and evaluations, environmental and structural monitoring programs, and architectural conservation. He has extensive experience in the evaluation of damaged structures, especially masonry and timber, as well as the repair and reinforcement of them, for which he has received multiple awards.
Jessica Baumert has served on the APT-DVC Board of Directors and is currently the Executive Director of The Woodlands National Historic Landmark District in Philadelphia, PA. She has a degree in Historic Preservation from The Savannah College of Art and Design and fell in love with historic cemeteries while learning to repair aging headstones in Savannah’s historic Colonial Park Cemetery. Jessica followed her love of preservation to the City of Philadelphia, where she spent ten years caring for the historic structures of Fairmount Park. In 2011 she took the helm at The Woodlands and began bringing a place for the dead back to life. Since then, she has developed nationally renowned programs including the Grave Gardeners, increased annual visitors to over 100,000 people, and cultivated a renewed sense of community within a horticultural oasis in West Philadelphia.
