January 2024 Newsletter

Hello fellow APT-DVC members, and Happy 2024!

I am writing to recap what proved to be a busy 2023, and to give you a sense of what the Board will be planning for the future.  For those who are able, please attend our Annual General Meeting on Feb 28, 6-8pm at Love City in Philadelphia. A link to register for this event (free to members) is HERE.

First I want to acknowledge and thank two of our outgoing Board members, Ari Seraphin and Katie Brown, for their service and contributions to the success of our Chapter. Ari has served as Chair Emeritus and Katie as Programming Chair, and both have been important influences on the Chapter and its leadership in the past several years.  We wish them well.

When we started the year in 2023, one of our goals was to engage the Preservation community in a more regional way, and to build alliances and relationships with similar organizations.  Through our webinar series and social events, we expanded the reach of our membership beyond the city that many of us call home. Our means, methods and materials series celebrated the regional influence of the Delaware Valley and its importance in providing critical materials and technologies to the local built environment. We plan to continue to provide high quality programming to our members as we develop new ideas for 2024.

In the same spirit, our symposium this year, "BRIDGING GENERATIONS - Tradition and Progress in Preservation ", will be held in Lancaster PA from May 17-19, and we are excited to partner with the Timber Framers Guild to present an exploration of the importance of maintaining traditional building techniques and best practice. Additional information on the symposium will be made available in the coming months. We hope you will be able to join us for this biennial offering.

Finally, we're having a Birthday! This Fall will mark 40 years since the adoption of our Chapter by our parent organization,  APTI.  We missed our 35th birthday celebration due to covid, and plan to make up for it with a proper bash later in the year.  We hope to gather many past officers and current members to celebrate all things APT!

Thank you for your continuing participation,  we hope to see you at the Annual Meeting at Love City!
