January 2025 Newsletter

Philadelphia’s Wissahickon Valley in December, a great place to think about the year ahead.

Happy 2025 to all members!

As a new year begins it's customary to consider one's place in the world and various ways in which to enhance or improve yourself. Often these “resolutions” inspire us to embrace change. It's also a time of reflection on the year that ended.

At APT-DVC, our business calendar closely aligns with this traditional cycle, and as a result we have an opportunity to assess and adapt the chapter and its leadership. Three longtime members of our Board are cycling off in the next few weeks, and while we will miss their experience and energy, our call for new Board nominees has happily been enthusiastically answered. We have received and accepted 5 new nominations, and determined to enlarge our Board from 11 to 13 members as a result. We are very excited to welcome these new Directors, whose qualifications can be found in the members-only area of the chapter website. Log in to view them and vote to affirm our new slate of Board members by February 11!

This past October presented another opportunity to reflect on the life of our chapter, as we celebrated our 40th anniversary in style at the Woodlands in Philadelphia. We had a lovely evening of food, drinks, dancing, and reminiscing about the foundations and evolution of the Delaware Valley Chapter of APT, and many of our longtime members had a chance to share their wisdom as they pass the torch to a new generation of preservationists.

While changes are happening, some things will remain the same, including our commitment to providing relevant quality programming to all of our members throughout the chapter's territory. In particular we continue to engage and grow our presence in western Pennsylvania, where three of our upcoming Board members practice, and will assume leadership roles as we go forward.

So let's embrace the coming year, and our new group of leaders, as we kick off the "NEXT 40" at APT-DVC! Join us at our Annual General Meeting at Yards Brewing on February 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. Register here for this free event.
